Hector 435
Hector is the follow-up sibling to Juno, the first Orbital-class robot. After Juno, the next realm to explore would be her masculine counterpart. I wound up using quite a lot more copper than I typically use – the plasma torch electrodes I’ve been saving have found their calling. His huge copper rivet shoulders are super fun too.
It’s fun to get him to lean. His head’s range is set precisely to where I wanted the range to be, which took some careful planning and measuring. Hands are crafted from pawls of old three-speed hubs.
I wanted to make Hector have the same fun movements that Juno does, but in his own way. I was concerned that his heavier weight would hinder his dancing abilities, but I was not disappointed with the results. Instead of the bell-like ringing of Juno, Hector has a clunkier sound. For his pose, I was thinking of the fun wide-legged, bent-arm robot-stance of break-dancers, C-3PO and even Devo. I love his twist the most.
