Corey’s origin story is a bit unusual, as she had the longest gestation period of all my previous work – I recently re-discovered her partially started with some old parts near her that I hadn’t added yet, all coated in a very light layer of oxide. Typically I make my work one-at-a-time, but there must have been a time-sensitive distraction and therefore this one was lost for a few seasons incomplete.
Revisiting her after many years of artistic development had me pondering how to continue work. Since my newer pieces have focused much more subtractive methods, novel approaches were needed to ‘flesh out’ the work. While I decided Corey didn’t need the usual adornments to get her message across, I did want to express as much as I could minimally.
As you can probably tell by her strong body language, Corey is a proud, unapologetically headstrong individual. But she’s so awesome to have on your side.
